13 April 2013 - National 12 Stage Relay, Sutton Park
On Saturday we took a strong team to the National 12
Stage Road Relay Championships at Sutton Coalfield. We came 19th which was
our best finish since 2006 when we finished.....19th. On what was an
overcast and blustery day, the rain just about managed to hold off although
it was constantly spitting. Despite that, the team was buoyed by the
inclusion of two GB internationals in the form of Mike and Scott. Rising to
the challenge, Andy Rayner and James Poole put in stella runs to put us in
1st place after the second leg, leaving Alex to narrowly lead out a host of
very talented runners. Steve Cooper ran an excellent leg, a few years after
his last road relays outing, and we had very good runs from two of our Uni
guys, Georges and Ross. Both Mike and Scott carried the baton on, moving
through the ranks with ease, and Finton Parkinson, also running the marathon
next week, ran a very solid race. The results are listed below:
Andrew Rayner (10) 26:47
James Poole (1) 14:22
Alex Gibbins (14) 29:05
Steve Cooper (20) 16:52
Michael Skinner (14) 26:50
Georges Vacharopoulos (16) 16:29
Peter Tucker (16) 28:24
Ross Braden (17) 16:30
Scott Overall (12) 26:18
David McKinlay (13) 16:34
Fintan Parkinson (16) 30:55
Danny Brewer (19) 16:56

As the Southern 12 Stage Championships were cancelled
(much to everyone's annoyance) at the very last minute, we were advised that
this would also double up as the Southern 12 Stage Championships. If that is
the case, by our reckoning (which is dubious at best), we finished 7th in
the South. If this is confirmed, it will be our best result since we came
7th in 2003.
Thanks for all your hard work this winter. We will aim
to reflect all of the achievements in the next gazette article. Good luck to
all of you who are doing the London Marathon next week, and with the
upcoming track season.
Cheers
Dave, Alex & Rich

I am informed that Lisa May's number was used by Julie
Reynolds and Kev May's number was used by
Ian Montgomery (who paced Tracey round, hence the curious time!)
Claire Austridge also ran and came in 1000th (according
to announcer) in about 1:54.36 but unfortunately her result are missing from
official result. We are trying to rectify this. Paul
15 February 2013 - Ras Al
Kaimah Half Marathon
The Moroccan to my left did 1 hr 13 mins and I did 1
hr 55 mins, slow after recovery from my foot fracture and 3month lay-off.
Also getting too old for this sort of thing! Almost retirement age!
