2016 - SVAC Inter-Club Final - Ashford

Blackheath and Bromley Harriers AC women were 2nd in
the Kent masters' league and so competed in the SCVAC finals today. Sadly
the team was very depleted due to injuries, work and other commitments.
There were only 6 women in the team. Clare Elms,
Jackie Montgomery, Maureen Miller all W50, Helen Godsell W60, Maz Turner W65
and Barbara Terry W70. Despite this small number we managed to cover the
majority of events and were placed 6th out of 7 teams. Everyone performed
above and beyond their limits.
Clare took part in all 9 track events incl W50 walk
and also threw javelin for W50. She came 1st in W50 800, 1500 and 3k.
Jackie came 1st in pole vault despite an elbow injury
sustained while raking sand for the long jump at another track meeting and a
painful hip. She also competed in W50 high jump & long jump, W35 triple
jump, discus and shot and both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
It was great to have Maureen back on the team after a
long spell away. She did W50 100 and came 1st in W50 400. She also put the
shot for W50. Unfortunately after the 400 her hamstring tightened up and she
was unable to compete further.
Helen raced in the 100m, & 400m W60 coming 1st in
both. She also raced W50 200m, both relays & competed in W60 High jump, long
jump & W50 triple jump.
Barbara competed in every throws event. Discus and
shot as W60, hammer as W50 and javelin as W35.
Maz tried to cover as many events as possible running
in B string 100m, 200m, 400m; A string 800m & 3k, W60 1500m, both relays and
threw W50 discus.
As always we must thank John Turner for his support as
gopher, pinning on numbers & making sure everyone was where they should be.
