Announcement
of New President - Webcast
Introduction
The UK government has advised that everyone in the UK should now avoid
“non-essential” travel and contact with others to fight coronavirus. The
government has now banned public gatherings to reduce the spread of this virus.
Therefore, our scheduled AGM is now postponed until further notice. Whilst we
are experiencing these unprecedented times, I have decided to announce my
successor via video link… a first in the clubs’ history.
Brief year overview
Last year the club celebrated 150yrs, which is an
amazing milestone, making our club one of the oldest athletics in the country.
One of highlights for me was hosting our 150yrs anniversary dinner at the
‘Houses of Parliament’ (Chris Haines organised!) It was an amazing evening of
heart felt speeches and my coach Mike McFarlane was my principal guest and
keynote speaker.
As a club we celebrate the success of Dina Asher Smith at
last year’s world championships, becoming the first British women to win a
global sprint title at the 200m and silver in the 100m, and a big congratulation
to her coach John Blackie for successfully guiding Dina’s career…
It was a privilege for me to see our U20’s win the YDL
finals in Manchester, then went on to finish top 3 in the European club
championships, in Portugal
I also experienced many firsts during my tenure as your
President
1. Mob match v Ranelagh (where I made a complete hash
of our CLUB CRY!!)
2. National XC Champs in Nottingham
3. I ran my first mile in 7min 9sec (PB)
Mention of thanks
- IPP Paul Byfield – guided me during my tenure
- Mike Peel, Steve Hollingdale, Nic Brooks and other
