8 May 2022- British Masters
Pentathlon, Oxford
Alex Pope, Clem Leon, Blair Wilson, Ian Firla
With multi events becoming more popular largely thanks
to an excellent coaching set up and grassroots program it was great to see a
good representation for Blackheath and Bromley in the British Masters
Pentathlon Championship at the weekend with Alex Pope and Blair Wilson
representing the club in the M35, Ian Firla in the M50 and Clem Leon in the
M65.
In the M35’s after a strong start by Alex, his
campaign for a medal was sadly ended by injury before the two track events,
both left to the end due to a scheduling issue. This schedule played out
well for Blair who had been consistent throughout the competition. A strong
win in the 1500m with a big gap between him and reigning jumps champion Dan
Brown from Salisbury ARC currently in second place awarded Blair the silver
medal and a club record for the event.
The other medal for Blackheath and Bromley was won by
Clem Leon in the over 65‘s who narrowly missed out on gold by just 87 points
from Alan Redman of Houghton Harriers. A fantastic effort from one of the
most consistent performers all day, beating most of the guys in the age
category below him as well earned him a Silver.
A very strong performance and a club record for Ian
Firla in the M50’s in a tough field saw him come forth, more to come from
Ian in the future as multi-eventing is relatively new to him.
Up the 'heath,
Blair Wilson
