September 2011 - European Champion Clubs
Cup - SpainFollowing on from their triumph
at the National Junior Athletics League Finals in Derby the previous
weekend, our Junior Ladies travelled to Castellon in Spain for the European
Champion Clubs Cup last Saturday.
Despite missing several of the winning team from
Derby, the girls produced a magnificent performance, returning with 10
medals from the 19 events, including 4 golds (Megan Southwart – 400mH;
Rachel Dickens – 400m; Krystal Galley – 800m; and, the 4x400m team of
Krystal, Megan, Rachel and Amara Lalemi-Jacobs), 3 silvers (Megan again in
the 100mH; Sam Milner in the shot; and, the 4x100m team of Georgina
Middleton, Amara, Rachel and Grace Sheppard) and 3 bronze (Grace in the
100m; Danielle Critchley in the 1500; and, Lauren Stevens in the long jump).
With support from the rest of the squad and despite
missing a pole vaulter, this took us to 3rd team overall, a mere 4 points
shy of 2nd place. This equals last year's position, though this year we
didn't have to wait several months to be promoted to 3rd following the
disqualification of a number of Serbian athletes.
The celebrations lasted long into the night... but
