Origins of Club Cry

Home Up

Last updated 20 September 2001

You must have heard the Club Cry at various Mob Matches and functions, but do you know when it originated?

BLACKHEATH HARRIERS' GAZETTE AND CLUB RECORD

Number 23, July 1900

A GREAT IDEA.

At the A.A.A Championship one of the most noticeable things was the College Cry of the Pennsylvania men.  Why not institute one of our own ready for Ratcliff's Championship?  How would this go? -

"Black-lack-lack-lack,
Black-lack-lack-lack,
Black-lack-lack-lack,
Black-heath"

It will be rehearsed at West Wickham, after dinner, on August 14th [1900].

So now you know!
