On Thursday 30 November 2006 the Maryon-Wilson Swimming Race
took place at the Eric Liddell Centre, Eltham. Two lengths or
50 metres means hard work and no breather! A smaller than usual number
turned up and enjoyed an hour of swimming interspersed with some quality racing,
including this year a mixed relay race of 4 times 50m freestyle. The team of
Michelle, David, Anne & Simon T won in 2:58.1; second were Darryl, Bill, Rhi, &
Simon W in 3:05.4. This was the first time we had used the Eric Liddell Centre
and it proved very popular - we may use it next year.

In 1893 Sir Spencer Maryon-Wilson presented the
trophy to the Club for the encouragement of swimming. For last couple of
years the event has been held at West Wickham baths over two lengths. As well as the scratch race there is a
handicap event. All members are
encouraged to take part; any style, change of stoke allowed - you don't
even have to dive in! |
