This year the Maryon Wilson Swimming Race
went back to West Wickham Baths on Friday 19 December 2003. Two lengths or
66 metres meant most had to work hard and take a breather! A good turnout of 14
swimmers and lots of spectators saw Nick Bunclark win, yet again, in a very fast
time of 39.2
seconds. The handicap went to Brian Smith, who completely out foxed the
handicapper.
In 1893 Sir Spencer Maryon-Wilson presented the
trophy to the Club for the encouragement of swimming. These days the
event is normally held at Beckenham Baths over two lengths,
however, this year we have used West Wickham - two lengths). As well as the scratch race there is a
handicap event. All members are
encouraged to take part; any style, change of stoke allowed - you don't
even have to dive in!
A good cross section of humanity
the club...
